Vision of G-d

Title:

The Speculum that Shines: Visionary Gnosis and the Role of the Imagination In Theosophic Kabbalah by Elliot R. Wolfson

Description:

Gaze upon the divine glory

SP3] p24:

Existence of a vision

  • The “existence” of a vision of G-d is not in question. But how do we “relate” (gaze upon) it.
  • Eyes as penis: divine sense
“Through the penis (eye), we “see” the other, and thus “know” her – i.e., have intimate knowledge of. Knowledge actually that is unique to you and her.”
    • It is a chording, an event, a meeting

As above – so below

The different descriptions can also be explained by the metaphor of a “projection of a higher dimensional event onto a lower dimension” or “the glimpse of a higher dimensional object from the viewpoint of a lower dimensional consciousness.”

A simple example of this is that a 3 dimensional sphere (or ball), will be seen in 2 dimension as a flat circle.

SP4] p95:

“Gaze upon the divine glory”

  • Image, vision, appearance of the “face” of G-d is not in question.
  • Tragic consequences of gazing, or contemplating the image.
  • Spends much time discussing these consequences, throughout the literature.

Cracks

To encounter the light the vessel must be ready and able. [David Deida had a lot to say about that] If not, it will crack, or overflow, or not fill enough – all dangerous situations.

  1. Force of water entering vessel, cracks or shatters it. If shattered, the vessel has been rendered useless, and dies. If only cracked, there is hope – though it will take repairing (if possible). But that means it can no longer contain the water, so it is always “leaking”, and cannot contain the light. Also, if cracked, it is fragile, for it may shatter at any moment, unless repaired. [Is that not the situation with many of our youngsters today?]
  2. Overflows - see water everywhere, all swampy and muddy, and becomes confused, or possibly an apostate, and drowning in the “water, water everywhere”.
[Note: When you enter Paradise, and see the shimmering floor of sapphire, do not say, there is water, water everywhere…(4 rabbis)]
  3. Not filled - believe it is filled with the light, but it is not. Either it is completely empty, or the light is partial, not pure, but the vessel would be unaware of the lack, and thus unaware of its darkness.

This is an example of using a physical 3d situations to explain esoteric phenomenon.

Penis producing visions

SP5] p104:

Perhaps the female is able to experience the immanent face of G-d, Shekhinah, the feminine aspect of the Divine as manifested on earth. Perhaps the man (through his penis) can have an experience of the transcendent nature of G-d. Just as man is separated from himself, God, as transcendent, is separated too.
Though we say G-d is hidden in the world – and that is true, for His light cannot be fully revealed, as it would blind us all – it is us that are separated from G-d, and are doing the hiding, even though it is much like the young child who puts his hands over his eyes to hide from you.

G-d as name

p109:

Interesting that the vision changed from a vision of the form to a name, a word, that became representative of a certain form of G-d. From there, all/any words could then represent other aspects of the Divine revelation.

Anthrocentric

SP6] p113:

Reflexive: The perception of what is outside of mind is shaped by what is inside mind.

Anthro-centric versus G-d/Divine-centric [El-centric → projective geometry, from the point of view of the infinite point or perspective]

Note:
Are we 4th, or higher, dimensional beings (consciousnesses), forced, holding ourselves, constrained, imprisoned in the “lower realms” and those who keep us imprisoned (including ourselves), “bound” to this realm, are, in fact, carrying out, G-d’s will.

And our job, our purpose, is to escape from this prison. If enough escape, and can create a world according to G-d’s will, or more in harmony with the complex systems that we awaken into. Life as it is, has more than enough challenges and will continue. But it also contains immense rewards.

Macropolis

SP7:

Something “out there”

Meeting with Macropolis, in Throne Room
(→ Halperin: Vision/Hallucination - nice stuff)
1. sexual fantasy => demons
2. power struggle (Genesis)
3. Reverse journey: anger \downarrow
4. Angelic doxology: liturgy - produces change in G-d!

Macropolis: Book of Measurements. Expressing G-d’s hands and feet, length of beard, etc.

Note:
We no longer have to use such language. We have a more accurate description of G-d’s body. It consists of the most amazing things. His beard is made of flares trillions of kilometres long. His eyes are supernova that brights the darknesses of the depths. In his body, the starts sparkle and glitter and litter like the cells in our body, or the particles of quantum reality. The cosmic winds blow through the galaxies like the breath through the passages of our lungs. The movements of these objects in the heavens produce a galactic symphony, all in harmony, from the largest to the smallest, to produce the divine music of the stars. We can describe G-d’s body with a much richer language – mathematics. In fact, most of the sciences are dedicated to describing G-d’s body. They are like the blind men that stumble across an elephant.
